Hep C Part 2

Damien's health insurance has rejected covering the medicine for his hepatitis C twice now. The third time the doctor applied, the insurance company agreed but with stipulations: Damien had to get the medicine filled for 2 times by 12 September 2016. When the pharmacy called about the coverage we were told that (because Damien is in the Medicare "donut hole") the cost of the medicine would be $3976.00 for a 28-day supply. When I told the doctor's office that I could get the money by the 15th of Sept 16, they replied that that was too late. He had to have filled the prescription 2 times by the 12th of Sep 16. Therefore, Damien did not get started on the medicine. The doctor had us apply to the Patient Assistance Program. We are waiting to hear from them at this time (it has been a month so that does not look good). We have 2 other options that we can try but this is a bit frustrating because time is passing and Damien is not being treated. I have found that I can get the medicine from a pharmacy in Canada for $788.00 for a 28-day supply. I do not want to take this route because the medicine is manufactured in a third world country and is a generic version. HOWEVER, Damien will get treated for this disease even if I have to travel to Canada two times. He did nothing to come in contact with this virus - except be an incapacitated person receiving treatment from multiple medical institutions for 17 years .
Footnote: We were able to receive funding; therefore, Damien was able to complete the full course of treatment and is free of Hep C.
